Double Side Arrangement Problems

Arranagement Type:- In this type of questions, the words or the numbers are arranged as per a fixed pattern. This pattern can be an alphabetical order in case of words, it can be an increasing or decreasing order in case of numbers.

How to identify whether the given input is of shifting or arrangement?

The basic difference between them are that the shifting goes on endlessly and at last it is written and so on and in arrangement arranging ends as soon as the order intended is achieved I.e., arrangement type of questions has last step.

Arrangement is of two types.

1. Single side arrangement.                                       2. Double side arrangement.

Double Side Arrangement : From the above examples we have seen the type of arrangement now let's see the type of logic as it can be alphabetical, numerical, alpha-numerical etc. Let's understand it with the below diagram.

  • Based on vowel
  • Based on consonant
  • Based on increasing number
  • Based on decreasing number
  • Based on number of letters in given word
  • Based on odd number
  • Based on even number
  • Based on alphabetical order
  • Based on reverse alphabetical order
  • Based on square of number
  • Based on cube of number
  • Tricks Regarding Arrangement:

  • In questions on arrangement when any step is given and input is asked answer will be "cant be determined".
  • To identify the pattern in question prefer the last step.
  • In this type of question when words all of sudden get transformed in number then the numbers most of the time comes from the place value of first or last letter of the word.
  • In arrangement problems, the contents of an earlier step can never be determined with certainly.

Illustration: Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below. A number arrangement machine, when given a particular input, rearranges it following a particular rule. The following is the illustration of the input and the steps of arrangement.

    Input: 39 55 19 20 37 41 68 53

    Step I: 19 39 55 37 41 68 53 20

    Step II: 19 37 55 41 68 53 20 39

    Step Ill: 19 37 41 68 53 20 39 55

    Step IV: 19 37 41 53 20 39 55 68

    Step V: 21 34 43 50 22 36 57 65

desired arrangement is obtained. As per rules followed in the above steps, find out the appropriate step for the given input.

    Input: 25 58 47 33 23 73 64 61

Which of the following is step V of the given input?

    A. 25 27 61 63 70 30 44 62                             B. 25 44 63 70 27 30 62 61

    C. 25 44 63 70 27 30 60 61                             D. 25 44 63 70 27 60 61 30

    E. None of these

    Answer: C

Solution: on analysing the steps we find that

Step I-Step IV: Prime numbers are arranged in ascending order from the left end and other numbers are arranged from the right end.

    Step V: +2, -3, +2, -3.

    Input: 25 58 47 33 23 73 64 61

    Step I: 23 58 47 33 73 64 61 25

    Step II: 23 4758 73 64 61 25 33

    Step IlI: 23 47 61 73 64 25 33 58

    Step IV: 23 47 61 73 25 33 58 64

    Step V: 25 44 63 70 27 30 60 61

Hence the correct option is C.
